As a senior in 1997, finished first in the 3A Oregon State Championship 400 (48.51) and 800 (1:56.37). Posted state's fastest 400 (48.37) and 800 (1:54.03) as a senior. Closed out his high school career with a fourth-place finish in the Golden West Invite (1:54.03). Owns his high school 100, 400, 800 and 4X400 school records. Earned all-state reviews in cross country, finishing seventh as a junior and senior, and 15th as a sophomore. Was a three-year varsity letter winner in basketball.
