Team XO Has Eventful Weekend in
Boise, Seattle
EUGENE,
Ore.—16 February 2004—Team XO athletes competed
in three different meets this weekend and had standout performances
in each.
In Boise, ID., Adam Kriz had another stellar toss in the weight
throw at the Holiday Inn Team Invitational which was held at Boise
State University. Kriz’s throw of 66 feet, 5.25 inches was
slightly off of his Indoor National qualifying mark from last
week of 66 feet, 8.75 inches.
Meanwhile, in Seattle, Wash. at Dempsey Indoor, Team XO newcomer
Nikki McEwen highlighted the team’s performances. McEwen
vaulted a near season best 13 feet, 5.75 inches, which was good
enough for second place in the meet. McEwen finished just behind
UCLA's Chelsea Johnson, whose winning mark of 14 feet, 8 inches
was good for eighth on the current 2004 IAAF World Rankings list.
McEwen will be in action again this weekend at the US Indoor Championships
in Boston.
Other highlights of the weekend included a solid performance by
the team’s high jump squad. Kyley Johnson led the group
with a jump of 6 feet, 10.75 inches and finished in third place.
Jason Boness and A. J. Acker both jumped for the first time this
year with marks of 6 feet, 8.75 inches and 6 feet, 4.75 inches,
respectively.
Three other Team XO members also had indoor debuts this weekend.
Destry Johnson ran the 5000 meters, taking first place. In the
3000 meters, Ben Mangrum ran a solid 8:38.12 and finished in eighth
place. Finally, in the 400 meters, Ryan Chaney, fresh off a two
year track hiatus, won the race in a time of 47.90. Chaney competed
in the 2000 Olympic Trials 400 meters in Sacramento.
