Team XO competes coast to coast
this weekend
EUGENE, Ore.—27
March 2004— The men and women of Team XO had a very
busy weekend, with athletes competing on both coasts.
On Saturday, new Team XO distance runner Paul Kezes ran in his
first competition for the white and blue at the United States
8K Championships in New York City. The event, held in Central
Park, featured the defending USA Men’s 8K Champion, Meb
Keflezighi, as well as 2002 National Steeplechase Champion Anthony
Famiglietti and 2000 10,000-meter Olympian Abdi Abdirahman.
Kezes, who finished twenty-fourth with a time of 23:53.2, said:
“All in all, I was pleased with the race. My goal was to
come to New York and compete to the best of my ability against
many of the top distance runners in the country. Hopefully, later
in the season, all my hard work will pay off, but I’m happy
with today’s outcome. It’s just nice to be healthy
and running again.”
Meanwhile, on the west coast, Team XO took a small contingent
of athletes to Palo Alto, Calif. to compete in the Stanford Invitiational.
In the men’s 800-meters, Team XO’s Simon Kimata took
first place, finishing in a fast 1:46.77. Also on the track for
the XO men was middle distance runner Brayce Forsha, who finished
forty-sixth in a large 1500 field. Forsha timed in at 3:51.44.
The women of Team XO had a productive day on the track as well.
In the 5000, XO runner Jenny Rodgers came in at 16:46.34, a 10
second personal best, which was good enough for fifteenth place.
Rookie XO runner Tara Crowley competed in the 1500 and finished
twenty-seventh in a time of 4:32.56.
On the field at Stanford, Team XO had great results. Simidele
Adeagbo took second in the women’s triple jump, launching
42-05.50. In the women’s discus, former Duck Mary Etter
finished in fourth with a heave of 173-07. Finally, in the men’s
high jump, Kyley Johnson had another seven foot day jumping 7-00.50
en route to a third place finish.
Also on Saturday, Team XO thrower Justin Carvalho took a first
place finish in the hammer at Sacramento State University’s
Hornet Invitational. Carvalho’s winning throw sailed 208-06
for a two foot season best.
Look for Team XO in their next meet at Willamette University on
Saturday, April 3 in Salem, Ore.
