WALNUT, Calif.—19 April 2004—Team
XO’s trip to southern California for the Mount SAC Relays
proved difficult this weekend, with a few of the athletes returning
to Eugene already looking forward to the next meet.
Team Director Ross Krempley said:
“It’s difficult to travel all the way down to Walnut—going
through everything that comes with traveling that distance—and
still compete at a high level. Sometimes it can be a hit or miss
situation.”
A highlight of the meet for Team XO was Simidele Adeagbo in the
field events. Adeagbo finished seventh in the long jump, going
19-10.25 and twelfth in the triple jump at 41-8.75.
In the field as well, XO high jumper Kyley Johnson placed a disappointing
sixth in his event with a below-average hop of 6-9.75.
On the track, XO distance runner Brayce Forsha was a bright spot.
Forsha took fifth place in his section of the 1500 meters, coming
in with a fast 3:48.15.
Ryan Chaney, XO’s 400 specialist, had to drop out from his
race due to a hamstring injury that flamed up in warm-ups.
Members of Team XO also competed at the George Fox Bruin Open
in Newberg, Ore., as well as at the Crescent City Classic road
race in New Orleans, LA.
It was thrower Justin Carvalho’s day In Newberg, where Carvalho
threw 212-4 in the hammer, taking first place and qualifying for
the upcoming Olympic Trials in Sacramento, Calif later this year.
Carvalho commented on his trials qualifying throw by saying:
“These past couple of weeks I have been working real hard
on my technique, and it seems to have paid off. I hope to stay
consistent in these next couple of weeks.”
Also competing at George Fox were Mary Etter in the discus and
Destry Johnson in the 5000. Both Etter and Johnson took first
in the respective events.
Meanwhile, in New Orleans, Team XO’s Rick Fuller competed
in the 10,000 at the Crescent City Classic. Fuller came in at
31:25, which was good enough for fifteenth.
Team XO will be competing with it’s largest contingent of
athletes to date at next week’s Oregon Invitational at Hayward
