XO Invite Off to the Races
EUGENE, Ore.—29
March 2004—Track Town, USA is still headquartered
in Eugene, Ore., and the men and women of Team XO, a Eugene track
and field club, are prepared to prove it to you with the advent
of the first annual XO Invite.
Held at Hayward Field on the morning of May 1, 2004, the day of
the famous Oregon Twilight meet, the XO Invite is an invitational
track and field meet for Oregon high schoolers. The meet, organized
and planned in association with the University of Oregon and the
Oregon Track Club, will combine track and field with a fun, family-oriented
atmosphere.
Team XO Director Ross Krempley said:
“It is going to be an incredible day. Our meet will lead
right into the Twilight, so all of the kids who are competing,
as well as all of the spectators, are in for a big treat. If you
like track and field, May 1 is the day to be at Hayward.”
The only high school meet to be held at Hayward besides the state
championships, the XO Invite is uniquely organized as a co-ed,
team championship-style meet. Already full, it features 32 total
teams from all four OSAA classes, bringing the total number of
athletes competing to over 1,000.
According to Krempley, the purpose of this style meet is to see
who has the best overall team in the state, regardless of class
or school size.
Krempley said:
“We really wanted to create a competitive atmosphere for
teams of both boys and girls where we could see who has the best
team in the state. We have five state champion teams, over 20
district champion teams and countless individual state champions
and qualifiers. This meet will definitely turn some heads and
show people a unique side of track and field.”
In addition to the events on the track, there will also be fun
booths, a band, prize giveaways and a diaper dash, where two-
and three-year-olds will go head to head in a short but very amusing
race.

Team XO Track & Field Club was founded and created in 2002
by former University of Oregon track athletes. We are located
in Eugene, Oregon, home of historic Hayward field and known internationally
as Track Town, USA. Our team is comprised of primarily post-collegiate
athletes that train in the state of Oregon or have graduated from
universities in Oregon. Team XO has been created for elite post
collegiate track & field athletes looking to continue their
athletic career, while competing at the highest possible level.
